The Dictionary of Canadian Biography (DCB) project was begun in 1959 as a collaboration between the University of Toronto and Université Laval. Ramsay Cook has served as general editor since 1989. Réal Bélanger is the current directeur général adjoint. The first volume was published in 1966, and as of May, 2005, the online version of the DCB comprises nearly 8,000 biographies.
