  • This portal commemorates the 400th anniversary of the founding of Québec on July 3, 1608, and the discovery of Lake Champlain on July 4, 1609, by Samuel de Champlain. The face in the windrose at top left is from a 1613 map Champlain drew, and is one of only two authentic portraits of the man, both self-portraits.
  • Welcome to the The Samuel de Champlain Portal, an open Web resource dedicated to the life and career of one of the great founders and mappers of modern Canada and the US, Samuel de Champlain. It gives users a narrative of Champlain's life, as well as a growing slate of supporting textual and image resources that can be used for student projects and book reports.
